Scholarships

Our mission is to provide and support a program where a diverse group of middle and high school students can obtain empowering training, informational, educational and inspiring knowledge for college that coincides with efforts within the community that can be beneficial throughout generations with a lifetime of positive influence and promotion within the different areas of an engineering career path through the STEM initiative. ROCAME is committed to establish the sound foundation for a viable and accountable program to encourage minority youths to enter the fields of engineering, math, science, and technology.

Mission

Our History

ROCAME is a 501c(3) non-profit charitable organization.  It was established in 1979 by area industry and education leaders to provide a sound and viable program to encourage all minority students to enter the fields of math, science, engineering and technology also known as STEM.  Carter W. Newsome and Rock Sanders designed the initial program to introduce and expose minority students to engineering disciplines. Since its inception, ROCAME has provided the opportunity and catered to thousands of students in Brunswick, Columbus, Pender and New Hanover Counties to participate in the program.  The program’s platform fosters team work, public speaking, math skills, science skills, circuit knowledge, architecture, programming, communication, chemistry concepts, research and presentation skills and robotics.  These skilled areas are geared toward an engineering based program that contributes in preparing middle and high school students for a variety of roles in engineering.  Our intent is to increase awareness, participation and training through education and competition that will assist in expanding preparedness and opportunities for minorities in engineering.
